Al-Shabaab attacked a military base for Somali forces in the city of Jalad in the Galgudud region, in the center of the country, on Friday morning. The Somali government forces had taken control of it last Monday, after the movement's fighters withdrew from it.

The movement's spokesman, Abdel Aziz Abu Musab, said that its fighters killed 159 members of the government forces, including officers, and that they attacked the base on 3 fronts and caused great damage to its military equipment.

On the other hand, Somali television reported that the army repelled an attack by Al-Shabaab on that military base, causing heavy losses among the movement.

And the Somali government announced that the attack left 7 dead among its soldiers, and the Somali Ministry of Information said that among the dead was a high-ranking military commander, adding that government forces killed 100 fighters after they stormed the camp.

And the Somali News Agency reported that the city of Jalad is under the control of the army and its situation is stable after repelling the Al-Shabaab attack.

Since 2007, Al-Shabaab has been fighting the federal government supported by the international community, and after its fighters were expelled from the country's main cities between 2011 and 2012, it was concentrated in vast rural areas.
