"Yes, there is a chance that it will be used," he replied to the press.

"It all depends on what he can do. I think 90 minutes, no. There's probably a role for him at some point in the game."

The Ukrainian, who played at Shakhtar Donetsk, trained with his new teammates this week.

"He's coming back from a mid-season break, so he hasn't played much lately, but he's been training well. We'll assess him and see how well he can play this weekend."

Long courted by Arsenal, 22-year-old Mudryk eventually joined Chelsea and their home stadium of Stamford Bridge, where he was introduced to spectators at half-time in Sunday's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Potter hopes that the skilful Mudryk will be the spark that will ignite his team, stuck in 10th place in the English championship, level on points with Liverpool (9th).

"He's a young player, an exciting player, who can attack the back line with fantastic one-on-one speed," he said.

"Now we just have to help him adapt to the Premier League, adapt to us."

Mudryk is Chelsea's fifth winter signing, having already brought in Joao Felix, Benoît Badiashile, David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos.
