In order to remove the landmines that were installed after the Russian army invaded Ukrainian territory, the Cambodian government, in cooperation with Japan, invited Ukrainian demining personnel and provided training on how to use mine detectors.

This training was held from the 16th to the 20th of this month in cooperation with the Cambodian government and Japan's JICA = Japan International Cooperation Agency, and eight Ukrainian demining personnel participated.

Cambodia has the experience of removing landmines that were set up in past civil wars with the cooperation of Japan and other countries and leading to reconstruction. We conducted training on how to use the latest mine detectors.

This mine detector is scheduled to be provided from Japan to Ukraine, and Professor Motoyuki Sato of Tohoku University, who developed it, gave instructions on how to handle the equipment and answered questions on site.

In Ukraine, a large number of landmines have been laid mainly in areas once occupied by Russia, hindering the return of residents and reconstruction. I hope that they will gain a lot of experience in the country where they were born. I want this training to be fruitful."

In the future, the Cambodian government and JICA will prepare a manual for demining and dispatch a team of experts to Ukraine's neighboring country, Poland, to continue providing assistance.
