• Analysis The Thousand and One Crisis in the United Kingdom by Rishi Sunak

The British Prime Minister,

Rishi Sunak

, was fined this Friday by the Lancashire County Police after posting a video on his social networks

in which he appeared without a seatbelt fastened

in the back seat of an official car.

Security forces said on Twitter that following footage showing "an individual not wearing a seatbelt as a passenger in a moving car" they have issued a ticket to a "42-year-old man from London."

Sunak recorded and posted the video to Instagram on Thursday,

during a visit to the north of England to promote his land-balancing program

and investment in impoverished parts of the country.

The Police do not specify the amount of the fine, which is usually 100 pounds (114 euros) for this concept, although it can rise to 500 pounds (570 euros) in some cases.

The head of government can decide to pay it or file an appeal before the courts.

On Thursday, the conservative president admitted his guilt and apologized through an official spokesman for his "brief misjudgment."

"The prime minister removed his seatbelt to film a short video.

He fully accepts that it was a mistake and apologizes

," a Downing Street spokesman said.

Opposition Labor MP Nick Thomas-Symonds for his part called the issue "very serious".

"It says a lot about how deep this government has sunk

that we are talking for the second time about a potentially fined prime minister

," he said.

Last April, the then head of government Boris Johnson was fined for illegal parties during the pandemic on Downing Street, a scandal that months later led to his resignation.

Sunak, who was Minister of Economy at the time, was also among the politicians and civil servants who were sanctioned for participating in these celebrations.
