North Korea sent down drones at the end of last year, the South Korean military said it would drastically increase its capabilities in the future.

One of the countermeasures was to disrupt the radio waves and drop the drone, but as a result of the coverage, it was confirmed that the effectiveness was low.

Reporter Jang Min-seong covered the story alone.

It is a 'jamming gun' that sends radio jamming signals to change the flight path or cause a crash.

Small unmanned aerial vehicles, which are difficult to hit with precision, are more effective in responding to jamming, and are called a 'soft kill' method because civilian damage is less than direct shooting down.

On the 29th of last month, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration presented a jamming-type response system as one of the countermeasures against North Korean small drones, and announced that it would purchase from a domestic company this year and deploy it.

As a 'portable small drone response system' project with a budget of 6 billion won, 90 sets consisting of rifle-type jammers, main bodies, and batteries will be deployed to special missions and strike teams of the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps.

The problem is that the rifled jammer only has an effective range of 500m.

Last month, the flight altitude of the North Korean drone was far short of 2-3 km.

Because of these limitations, the military is promoting the 'Block One' project by spending 24.4 billion won on research and development alone to defend small unmanned aerial vehicles.

It is a weapon system in which a fixed jammer sends a jamming signal when UAV track information is received from the local air defense radar and air defense command and control system. The effective altitude is 10 km.

However, it is impossible to move, and it is deployed only after 3 years at the earliest, and the scale is only 8 sets.

[Seolhun/National Assembly Defense Committee (Democratic Party): Operation radius or effective distance, these are very insufficient.

Comprehensive and practical countermeasures must be made quickly.] The

Joint Chiefs of Staff said that specific operational capabilities have not been finalized, and that the timing and quantity of electrification will be determined in consideration of the speed of technology development.
