The protests in Iran, triggered by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in the custody of the morality police in September 2022, have been ongoing for several months.

At the center of the protests have been, among other things, the Revolutionary Guard, which has put down all opposition to the political power with violence.

The Revolutionary Guard has no loyalty to the Iranian people.

Instead, loyalty lies entirely with the ideology of the revolution and Iran's supreme spiritual leader.

In addition to being an armed force, the Revolutionary Guards also wield political and economic power in Iran.
