The Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation announced the initiation of a criminal case against a US citizen on the grounds of a crime under Art.

276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Espionage".

“The American is suspected of collecting intelligence information on biological topics directed against the security of the Russian Federation,” the department said, without giving any other details of what happened.

The FSB of the Russian Federation systematically reports the detention of persons suspected of involvement in high treason and espionage in favor of other countries.

In particular, on January 17, the press service of the Federal Security Service for North Ossetia reported the detention of a resident of one of the CIS countries on the border between Russia and Georgia.

According to RIA Novosti with reference to the department, the detainee provided law enforcement agencies with the Telegram correspondence stored in his mobile device, from the content of which it followed that he was transmitting information to Ukraine about the location of military equipment of the Russian Armed Forces.

In addition, at the end of December, the FSB announced that employees of the department had stopped in a number of Russian regions the criminal activities of citizens of Russia and Ukraine who had assisted the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and Ukrainian troops.

Such detentions, in particular, took place in the Perm Territory, the Jewish Autonomous Region and the Rostov Region.

According to the FSB, the detainees, on the instructions of the SBU officers, intended to carry out a number of terrorist attacks, as well as sabotage at important facilities in Perm.

At the same time, they provided Ukrainian intelligence with assistance aimed at destabilizing the socio-political situation.

Criminal cases were initiated against the detainees under Art.

275 (high treason in the form of espionage, high treason in the form of providing other assistance to representatives of a foreign state) and Art.

276 of the Criminal Code of Russia (“Espionage”).

Earlier in the same month, the FSB announced the suppression of the illegal activities of two Russians suspected of committing high treason in the form of espionage in the interests of the SBU.

According to the agency, a resident of Sevastopol, being a supporter of the Ukrainian nationalist ideology, was recruited by the SBU in 2016.

As the FSB clarified, after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, for a monetary reward, he transferred to a foreign special service data on the location of objects of the Russian Defense Ministry, which, in turn, could be used against the security of the Russian Federation and damage the country's defense capability.

Along with this, the detainee, on the instructions of curators from the SBU, in the summer of 2022, attracted his friend, another resident of Sevastopol, to illegal activities.

That, in turn, collected and transmitted data on the objects of the FSB of Russia via an Internet messenger to a foreign intelligence service.

In early October, the FSB announced the arrest of another SBU agent suspected of espionage.

According to the agency, we are talking about a 28-year-old resident of Kherson, who was recruited by a foreign special service in 2021.

In September, the FSB reported the arrest of a Vladivostok resident suspected of spying for the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

According to the department, the Russian collected and transmitted, on the instructions of the Ukrainian military intelligence, information about critical and military infrastructure facilities in the Primorsky Territory.

As noted in the FSB, the detainee was aware that the data he sent could play against the security of Russia.

Earlier in the same month, the FSB announced the detention of the quality director of one of the Russian aircraft factories.

According to the department, he had access to technical documentation marked "top secret".

According to the FSB, the detainee filmed drawings of details of military aviation equipment using a mobile phone, after which he handed over these materials to a citizen of Ukraine via electronic communication channels.
