The Australian Shepherd is still the favorite dog of the French with more than 20,000 births in 2022, revealed this Thursday the Centrale Canine, which lists all purebred dogs in France through its Book of French origins (LOF).

In 2022, more than 258,000 purebred dog births were recorded in France, up 10.4% compared to 2019, the last reference year.

Among the favorite breeds of cats registered in the LOF of the French, the Maine Coon comes well ahead with 24,414 births, ahead of the Sacred Birman (5,214) while the Ragdoll (4,806) completes the podium of felines.

The SPA took in 44,199 abandoned animals in 2022, almost equaling a 2019 record, including 12,646 dogs and 27,940 cats.

Among those left behind are also purebred dogs and cats.
