The South African Foreign Ministry announced the country's desire to nominate its candidacy for permanent members of the UN Security Council

This was stated in an interview with RIA Novosti by South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor.

“Of course, we would like to nominate our candidacy.

I am sure that any other African countries would like the same,” said Pandor.

According to her, discussions on the reform of the UN Security Council have been going on for more than a decade.

Earlier, the Secretary General of the world organization, António Guterres, said that the possibility of increasing the number of permanent members of the UN Security Council "is on the table."

US President Joe Biden called for an increase in the number of permanent members of the UN Security Council.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, called India and Brazil worthy candidates for permanent members of the UN Security Council.
