Prawn farming is one of a series of food-tech ventures presented in Västervik recently.

In Ankarsrum, a tomato and salmon farm is planned, and at Lucerna in Västervik, companies are establishing themselves to produce blue food, i.e. sustainable food from the sea.

And now 24-year-old Mattias Djurstedt wants to join that crowd.

- I'm from the small village of Getterum in Västervik municipality, so it feels good to come back here where it all started, says Mattias Djurstedt.

Wants sustainable farming of scampi shrimp

Mattias Djurstedt wants to grow shameless scampi - sustainably produced giant prawns without waste.

Already this year, there may be a locally grown scampi shrimp on the Västerviker's plate.

In any case, that is what Mattias Djurstedt hopes.

- We create a natural, circular cycle.

All waste is reused, says Mattias Djurstedt.

Scampi shrimp has a reputation for contributing to both environmental destruction and human rights violations.

But Mattias Djurstedt wants to produce shrimp under sustainable conditions.

- But it can't just be sustainable.

It also has to taste good and you have to be able to afford it.
