The Ministry of Health and Community Protection, in cooperation with the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, organized a training workshop to introduce the mechanism for identifying priority zoonotic diseases, within the "One Health" approach, which is a tool for joint assessment of the risks of these diseases.
The workshop, which targeted workers in the health care, environmental health and animal health sectors, focused on the concept of one health, as an approach that requires the efforts of multiple sectors concerned with combating zoonotic diseases, to achieve optimal health for humans and animals and to preserve the environment, by identifying and evaluating the risks related to these diseases to reduce effects and control.
The workshop, which was organized at the Ministry's office in Dubai, was attended by the Director of the International Health Regulations Office at the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, Dr. Fatima Al-Attar, the Director of the Epidemiology and Surveillance Department, Dr. Fatima Hussein, and the Director of the Public Health and Prevention Department, Dr. Nada Al-Marzouqi, with the participation of a number of representatives of various health authorities. local.
Participants in the workshop learned practically about the steps to be followed in the process of identifying priority zoonotic diseases, the mechanism for assessing the risks of these diseases, methods of prevention and control of them, and the collective action guidelines followed in this regard.
The workshop highlighted the importance of the process of identifying and evaluating priority zoonotic diseases within the framework of the One Health approach, due to its significant role in reducing and controlling the effects of these diseases in coordination and cooperation between all parties concerned with human health, animal health and environmental protection, by providing data and exchanging the necessary technical knowledge. With the aim of developing the necessary plans to confront and reduce zoonotic diseases.
The Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, Dr. Hussein Abdel-Rahman Al-Rand, confirmed that the training workshop on identifying zoonotic diseases within the One Health approach comes as a continuation of the integrated efforts of the Ministry in establishing a methodology that enhances the capabilities of workers in the sectors of health care, environmental health and animal health, to work collectively on Prevention of health threats associated with zoonotic diseases.
He added that the effective cooperation between the concerned authorities raises the level of preparedness for any potential risks caused by these diseases.
The Director of the Epidemiology and Surveillance Department at the Ministry, Dr. Fatima Hussein, stated that training all concerned on this mechanism comes out of our keenness to make it part of the national health system, to efficiently identify zoonotic diseases, and to develop the necessary national plans for preparedness, surveillance and response to health threats, as the The concept of "One Health" is a health approach based on the interdependence between human and animal health and their connection to ecosystems.
