Russian fighters intercept a German plane over the Baltic Sea

The Russian military announced that its planes had intercepted a German reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea to remove it from Russian airspace.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that a Russian fighter took off to intercept a German naval reconnaissance aircraft, a Lockheed P-3C Orion.

The German armed forces plane turned away before reaching Russian airspace.

Then the Russian fighter, "SU-27", also returned to its air base.

A German navy spokesman told dpa that the plane was on a routine reconnaissance flight, and then a Russian plane took off to intercept it in airspace near Kaliningrad to monitor it.

This was also a routine reaction, and nothing happened.

It is noteworthy that tensions have escalated in the airspace over the Baltic Sea between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Russia since the start of the Russian war against Ukraine in February of last year.
