- Many of us have thought for a long time that it should really be free for all women, but free menstrual protection in junior high school is an important first step, says Anna Carlsson (S), chairman of the Children and Education Committee.
The municipality has now bought in special cabinets with pads and tampons that have been set up in a couple of toilets at each upper secondary school.
The toilets are marked with "menstrual safe toilet".
- I am very happy that we are doing this.
As a young girl, it can sometimes feel difficult if you get your period at school and you might go home if you forgot protection.
It will be a security to know that there is menstrual protection at the school, says Anna Carlsson (S).
Lesson about menstruation
School nurses in the municipality have now held lessons at the start of the term where they told them that there will be free menstrual protection and that it is important.
- It has become a good opportunity to talk about periods and menstrual protection with all students to de-dramatize this.
According to Anna Carlsson, it is not about any large sums for the purchase of pads and tampons, but it can be accommodated within each school's budget.
