"U.S. President Joe Biden has announced a massive disaster in the state of Georgia," the statement said.
He ordered federal assistance to supplement local and state recovery efforts in areas hit by severe storms, direct winds and tornadoes.
Earlier, at least six people died as a result of a series of tornadoes that hit the US state of Alabama.
