The first Korean-made supersonic fighter 'Boramae' KF-21 prototype succeeded in its first supersonic flight on the 17th.

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration announced that the KF-21 successfully performed its first supersonic flight at 3:15 pm today (17th).

The first KF-21 prototype took off from the 3rd Training Wing of the Air Force in Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do at 2:58 pm today and flew at an altitude of about 40,000 feet over the South Sea, exceeding Mach 1.0, or 1,224 km/h for the first time.

Prototype 1 flew for 56 minutes and landed at 3:54 PM.

The first supersonic flight control stick was held by Lee Dong-kyu, chief of the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).

Since its first flight in July of last year, the KF-21 has continued to expand its flight range, including altitude and speed, through more than 80 flights to date, and succeeded in supersonic flight that day.

It is the first aircraft to break through the speed of sound with a unique shape developed with domestic technology.
