These hours of homework help, organized in small groups outside of class and supervised by a teacher, already exist in many colleges for student volunteers.

In an attempt to raise the level in 6th grade, the Minister of National Education makes this system compulsory from the next school year for this class.

Report in a Parisian college, to understand how this session works.

To raise the level in college, the Minister of National Education announced the generalization of the "Homework done" device for all 6th graders.

These hours of homework help after class are supervised by a teacher.

They already exist in many schools but are organized solely on the basis of student volunteering, and teachers paid overtime.

Pap Ndiaye therefore makes them compulsory for all 6th graders from the start of the next school year.

Europe 1 went to a Parisian college in the 12th arrondissement, the Jules Verne college, to understand everything about this device.

"It really helped me improve"

This Friday afternoon, at 4.30 p.m., the bell rang... And while the college was emptying, six students remained in the classroom for an hour longer.

The goal: to tackle their homework right away, under the watchful eye of Laïla Gatoui, literature teacher.

She helps Naël, in 4th grade, who is revising a lesson on adjectives.

He is a regular at the session.

"I chose to go to 'Homework Done' twice a week," the boy explains.

"It was me who decided it, not my parents, and it really helped me improve," he rejoices.

"In the first trimester, I had the encouragement, whereas before I didn't have it."

Make device mandatory queries

Ruby also sees progress in her grades.

“I could very well do my homework at home… But at home I am easily distracted, I like to do other things”, confides the teenager.

"So I don't necessarily do them well, I do it quickly".

A positive experience also on the teacher side.

Even if the idea of making it obligatory in 6th questions.

"What we value with 'Homework done' is volunteering," says Laïla Gatoui.

“So if it is compulsory, it is no longer the same approach, and that can have a perverse effect”, she remarks.

Finally, the question of human resources, to supervise all 6th graders at the start of the school year, has not yet been decided by the ministry.

School teachers could come to reinforce the staff.
