The Turkish student who was denied an internship: "Of course I was shocked"

It was this weekend that SVT was able to tell about the female student Fatma Solmaz from Turkey.

When she contacted a professor at Stockholm University regarding a research internship, she was refused citing that "Turkey is stopping Sweden from joining NATO".

Now she tells SVT about the answer.

- If this happened to me, then it may have happened to others.

And it might happen again in the future if I don't tell you about it.

"Unacceptable"

A head of department at the department in question regretted the response to the woman when SVT contacted the university this weekend.

In an email he wrote, among other things:

- In this case, an employee expressed himself in an unprofessional and unacceptable way and as soon as we became aware of this, we took measures and have handled it according to internal procedures.

The university has also offered to help Fatma find another internship.

But she tells SVT that she has already accepted a place, also at Stockholm University, which she was offered before the story came to light.
