The special mission committee of the Liberal Democratic Party, which discusses how to finance the increase in defense spending, will hold its first meeting this week and start considering whether it is possible to increase financial resources other than taxes.

The government and ruling parties plan to secure about three-fourths of the increased defense budget for the drastic strengthening of defense capabilities through expenditure reforms, and cover the remaining one-fourth through tax hikes such as corporate taxes. However, the LDP has decided to set up a special committee to discuss non-tax financial resources, given that there is deep-rooted opposition to the tax increase within the party.

Approximately 20 people, including Chairman Hagiuda, chairman of the Special Committee for Political Affairs, Secretary-General Seko of the House of Councillors, and heads of relevant subcommittees, discussed how to proceed with discussions on the 16th, and confirmed that the first meeting would be held on the 19th. bottom.

As for non-tax revenue sources, we will verify whether we can reliably secure the expected amount, and we will begin to consider whether we can increase the amount through further expenditure reforms and reviewing the redemption period of government bonds.
