There is no doubt about the attractiveness of Germany.

A xenophobic country would hardly be the main escape point in Europe.

Although the entire European Union consists of constitutional states, the vast majority of refugees who arrive at the European external borders want to continue - to Germany.

There have not been so many in a long time.

They come to a country that cannot offer everything to everyone for a variety of reasons.

It doesn't meet its own requirements.

Hundreds of thousands have been in the asylum process for years.

Hundreds of thousands are required to leave the country.

A good 244,000 applications for asylum were made in Germany last year.

At the same time, Germany complains about a shortage of skilled workers.

In this situation, the first thing to do is to avoid being overwhelmed by what happened in 2015.

We need to know who is coming into the country, streamline procedures and decide who should stay.

Instead, the traffic light government risks losing control again.

It wants to make it easier to acquire German citizenship and allow more multiple citizenships.

fatal signal

This is a mistake that by no means leads to better integration.

The granting of citizenship is the formal capstone of a process, not the beginning.

The current situation in particular does not allow playing poker with the composition of the state population.

In general, there is nothing to be said against reducing bureaucracy.

Procedures can be simplified and shortened.

But the reform of citizenship law is sending out a fatal signal: come on, everyone, you'll soon be Germans.

This endangers social cohesion.

Only those who really want to become German should be naturalized.

Multiple nationalities are sometimes unavoidable, but they harbor conflicts of loyalty.

The state as a reference, the division of the world into states is by no means outdated.

On the contrary: Ukraine is defending its nation, its statehood with everything it has.

In the European Union, having multiple nationalities is not considered a problem.

In any case, all European citizens enjoy freedom of movement and extensive basic freedoms in the common legal area and association of states.

Here, too, one can of course ask to what extent multiple voting rights serve the European project.

This is the result of a long development of peace and mutual trust.

But if you're an immigrant from a completely different country and don't really want to give up your ties, you're completely free to do so.

The question is whether he will still be loyal to Germany.

He should make up his mind.

Throwing away the German passport does not automatically lead to better integration or even combat racism and discrimination in everyday life: After all, the passport is not written on anyone's face.

Discrimination is - unfortunately still - mainly because of appearance, name, pronunciation, clothing.

A German passport didn't change anything.

Cosmopolitan climate

However, it leads – generously forgiven – to people being naturalized who, because of their attitude and behavior, do not belong here.

And that you can't get rid of.

It is also more than doubtful whether more generous naturalization will attract skilled workers.

Such specialists strive for a good job first.

In fact, the conditions for this must be created.

If you absolutely want to go to an English-speaking country, you will hardly be won over to Germany.

But if you can realize your potential here, if you feel comfortable here with your family, if you want to stay because you share our values, no obstacle should be put in your way.

Incidentally, it is completely independent of qualifications and the exact reason for immigration.

But you have to prove that.

However, Germany can and must offer a cosmopolitan climate, a friendly environment for entrepreneurs and employees alike.

But it must also accept its own foundation and the rules it has set itself.

Whoever ridicules their own country, how does the immigrant solemnly intend to naturalize it?

The legal bond of citizenship is about political membership and assignment, about obligations, but also about rights and protection.

Germany already has a generous naturalization law.

Loosening the bond of citizenship increases integration problems, weakens the polity and harms citizens and immigrants alike.
