Republicans are sticking with their own congressional investigation despite the appointment of a special counsel in President Joe Biden's filing affair.

James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said he would seek information from the Justice Department and the National Archives.

You have a lot of questions, Corner said on Sunday on CNN: It's about access to the classified information that was found on Biden.

And it's also about transparency, i.e. the question of why the Justice Department didn't make the find public before the congressional elections in November.

On Thursday, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Robert Hur as a special counsel and tasked him with investigating the files.

In particular, the former federal prosecutor is to examine whether laws have been violated.

Meanwhile, more confidential documents were found in Biden's private home in Wilmington, Delaware.

The White House said on Saturday that five pages from Biden's time as vice president had been discovered in a room next to the garage when Biden's legal adviser Richard Sauber visited the house on Thursday.

"Documents probably accidentally misplaced"

Previously classified information had been found in a former office of Biden in Washington and in the garage of his private home in Wilmington.

As Sauber announced, Biden's personal lawyers first searched the house and found a document marked confidential in the garage on Wednesday.

Because the attorneys did not have the necessary security clearance to read the document, they contacted the Justice Department.

As a result, Sauber traveled to Delaware and discovered five more pages.

He assured that all documents were "promptly and voluntarily" submitted to the Justice Department.

The documents were probably "inadvertently misplaced".

The affair is a setback for the president, who felt empowered after the congressional elections because the expected landslide victory for the Republicans failed to materialize.

Biden announced in November that he would announce earlier this year whether he would run again in 2024.

Kevin McCarthy, the new House Speaker, has invited the President to deliver his State of the Union address in Congress on February 7th.
