Arsenal's rollercoaster

Thanks in part to Hugo Lloris' first own goal in 354 Premier League appearances, Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points.

The Gunners now have 47 points against 38 at City, beaten on Saturday in the derby (2-1) against United.

The Spurs (33 pts) remain 5th at 5 units from Newcastle and the Red Devils, 3rd and 4th.

While the North London derby is traditionally one of the hottest in England, this one was snuffed out in the first half by Arsenal who hunkered down in the second.

The Spurs, true to their reputation, again delivered a sluggish start, and the ball from Lloris, who deflected a powerful cross from Bukayo Saka into his cages only made things worse (0-1, 14th).

If he then caught up with a parry left hand on a strike from Martin Odegaard (22nd) or an outing at the feet of Eddy Nketiah (70th), his post saved him on a volley from Thomas Partey (25th). ) before Odegaard, halfway, doubled the bet (0-2, 36th).

Sharp in front, the Gunners were also able to count on an effective Aaron Ramsdale in the cages and elected man of the match, coming out well ahead of Son Heung-min (18th), before defeating Harry Kane (45 + 2, 50th), Ryan Sessegnon (52nd) and Richarlison (82nd).

A real performance of a possible future champion

Chelsea is moving again!

While he broke the piggy bank again to recruit the Ukrainian Mykhailo Mudryk for 100 million euros, Chelsea offered a capital success against Palace (1-0).

With 28 points, the Blues remain 10th and ten units from the qualifying places for the Champions League, but the Londoners, and especially their coach, Graham Potter, needed it badly.

The game itself was not exciting.

In line with most recent matches - except the 4-0 conceded in the FA Cup at Manchester City - Chelsea were diligent and determined, but this time with the small touch of success that made the difference .

It was manifested in particular by the goal of Kai Havertz on a cross from Hakim Zyiech following a corner played in two stages (1-0, 65th) and in the last quarter of an hour crossed without damage to the score, despite a palpable feverishness.

We will have to confirm the slight upturn next week in Liverpool, in a match that is practically double or nothing for the two teams.

Newcastle clings

Facing Fulham, a surprise team at the start of the season, the Magpies found the fault at the very end of the match (1-0), after being saved by a slip from Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic which led to the cancellation of the penalty he had transformed.

Overtaken on Saturday by Manchester United, Newcastle regained their 3rd place on goal difference (38 pts, 22 against +8), one length behind the reigning English champion.

And these are three points that could weigh heavily at the end of the season, as the ax has come close.

In the 65th minute, four minutes after Fabian Schär had found the post on a free kick 20 meters away, on the other side of the field, the VAR had allowed Fulham (6th, 31 pts) to benefit from a penalty.

Charged with the base works, the Serb Mitrovic rushed and scored in a slide, but in slow motion, the referee found that the ball had touched both feet and that the penalty was therefore not valid, giving a free kick to Newcastle.

Worse still for the promoted, at the very end of the match, Callum Wilson tore himself off to straighten a cross from Sean Longstaff and the Swede Alexander Isak, who entered a quarter of an hour earlier, headed the ball into the goal empty (1-0, 89th).

Enough to reinforce the ambitions of the club owned by the Saudis and which has three very affordable meetings against Crystal Palace, West Ham and Bournemouth to come.
