“We cannot talk about the normalization of relations with Ankara in the context of the ongoing Turkish occupation of the Syrian regions,” the diplomat said.

According to him, in order to normalize relations, Turkey must stop the occupation, as well as the activities of terrorist groups.

“Only after removing these obstacles will it be possible to talk about holding a meeting between President Bashar al-Assad and the Turkish leadership,” Faisal Mikdad said.

Earlier, a representative of the Turkish President, Ibrahim Kalin, said that a meeting of the Turkish and Syrian defense ministers was planned for February.
