The Iranian government has executed a former high-ranking official for leaking classified information as a British spy.

The British side has strongly condemned this, and the deterioration of relations between the two countries has become noticeable.

The Iranian judiciary announced on the 14th that it had executed Alireza Akbari, the former undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense and Munitions.

Mr. Akbari was arrested and sentenced to death for acting as a spy for the British foreign intelligence agency "MI6" and threatening national security.

A judicial statement said Mr Akbari had leaked classified information about Iran's internal affairs, foreign affairs and national defense in exchange for British citizenship and a huge salary.

In addition, it also included information about the scientist Fakrizadeh, who was assassinated in 2020 and was said to have played a central role in nuclear development.

British Foreign Secretary Cleverley said the execution was "a barbaric act that can be condemned in the strongest terms. Through this politically motivated act, the Iranian government has demonstrated a ruthless disregard for human life." I've made it clear again. It's not allowed."

He also announced that he had imposed sanctions on Iran's attorney general, summoned the acting ambassador, and temporarily recalled the British ambassador to Iran.
