A

31-year-old African-American teacher,

cousin of one of the co-founders of the

Black Lives Matter movement,

died hours after receiving electric shocks during a police intervention,

Los Angeles authorities announced.

The events date back to January 3, but they arouse a growing scandal after the police published videos of the arrest of

Keenan Anderson on Wednesday,

recorded by the cameras carried by the agents who immobilized him.

In them, the professor is seen visibly feverish and agitated after having been involved in a trivial car accident in the

Venice

neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The officers forcibly restrain him and apply electric shocks from a

taser

to the ground to stop him from struggling.

"Officers wrestled with Anderson for several minutes, using a Taser, his body weight,

firm restraints and armbars

to overcome his resistance," Los Angeles police said in a statement.

The video shows Anderson asking for "help", shouting "they are trying to kill me" or

"they are trying to do the same thing to me as George Floyd",

while a police officer crushes her chest and elbow with his knee.

On May 25, 2020, African-American George Floyd died of suffocation during a police intervention in Minneapolis, in the United States.

His death sparked the "Black Lives Matter" protest movement in the United States.

Taken to a hospital following the arrest,

Anderson died of cardiac arrest.

"He was killed by the police,"

Patrisse Cullors,

Anderson's cousin and co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, wrote on Instagram.

The African-American mayor of Los Angeles,

Karen Bass,

called for the immediate suspension of the police officers pending the outcome of the investigation.
