Chinese quarantine authorities said that 34 cases of XBB mutations and sub-variants were detected in China, and that they faced the risk of continuous influx of these mutations and their appearance in the mainland.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the State Council of China said yesterday in a briefing on Corona 19 quarantine, "From December 1 of last year to now, 33 cases of inflow of XBB mutation and its subvariants have been confirmed, and one case was also detected in the mainland."

He added, "It is not yet prevalent in China, but considering the situation of overseas inflow, there is a high risk of continued influx of XBB mutations and subvariants and their appearance in the mainland."

However, the Centers for Disease Control said, "The XBB.1.5 mutation recently prevalent in the United States has not been detected."

XBB.1.5, which evolved from the XBB mutation, is known to have the strongest transmission power among the COVID-19 omicron submutations.
