The prosecution has asked the Supreme Court to open an investigation into the role of Jair Bolsonaro in

the attack launched by his activists

against the presidency, Congress and the Supreme Court itself on Sunday January 8.

This is the first time that Jair Bolsonaro, beaten in the October presidential election by Lula, has been formally cited in this affair, recalls our correspondent in Sao Paulo,

Martin Bernard

.

He never officially admitted defeat, and prosecutors suspect he was the intellectual mentor in the assault on places of power.

The prosecution wishes to identify the origin of the “

anti-democratic acts which led to episodes of vandalism and violence in Brasilia

”.

Jair Bolsonaro “

carried out a public incitement to the execution of a crime

” by broadcasting a video on social networks “

challenging the regularity of the presidential election of 2022

”, explained the prosecution in a press release.

A video published two days after the invasion of places of power by thousands of Bolsonarists, then deleted, recalled the prosecution.

But it could, according to him, provide "

a link of proof

" justifying "

a global investigation into the acts carried out before and after January 8, 2023

" by the ex-president.

A draft decree to invalidate the elections

During a search of the home of former justice minister Anderson Torres, police also found a draft declaration of a state of emergency that would have invalidated the election result and kept Jair Bolsonaro in power, said revealed Thursday evening the daily

Folha de S. Paulo

.

Anderson Torres is under an arrest warrant for alleged "

collusion

" with the perpetrators of the violence in Brasilia.

We will wait for him to show up until Monday.

If this is not the case, we will launch the extradition request procedure next week

, ”announced Flavio Dino, Minister of Justice for Lula, in office since January 1, on Friday.

Anderson Torres is in the United States and has promised to return to Brazil to surrender to authorities.
