Gunzburg noted that the "kraken" appeared as a result of recombination, when two different strains met in a cell and exchanged genetic material.
Based on this, according to RIA Novosti, a new combination is formed, where the resulting strain is similar to the previous one, but has new properties.
“This suggests that the evolution of the virus will now go much faster, and the diversity that we will face will be even greater,” Gunzburg said.
