- For just over a week, we have been fighting here to remove the water and prevent it from penetrating under the buildings.

I bought the shop and the glass cabin recently and hope the buildings are not destroyed now, says Lars Skulberg.

Yellow warning for high flows

On January 8, SMHI issued a yellow warning for high flows in the eastern half of Kronoberg county, southwestern Kalmar county and Blekinge county.

Water flows will most likely continue to increase in the coming days but will slowly begin to decrease over the weekend or early next week, according to SMHI.

- Locally it can have major consequences, but overall we do not see extreme flows, although higher than normal, says Louise Petersson.

On average, 30-40 mm of rain falls in total in January in Kronoberg and Kalmar counties, and SMHI's measurements show that so far at least 55 mm has fallen and at some stations up to 80 mm.

- This means that the ground is saturated with water and every new millimeter of rain that falls, or snow that melts off, will end up in the waterways instead of infiltrating the ground, says Louise Petersson.

Hoping for normal flows

Lars Skullberg can only hope that it stops raining and that water flows go down.

- We have opened the floodgate as much as possible and we have water pumps that work around the clock.

We can do no more than hope that it stops raining, he says.
