Since the 1980s, the Ballet Academy has used dance facilities in the so-called Pink House in the middle of central Umeå, but that lease with the municipality expired at the turn of the year.

There has been great concern about where to stop instead, and in mid-December the dance students held a demonstration where they formed a chain around the Pink House.

Umeå Municipality has offered the Ballet Academy to dance in Midgårdsskolan's premises in the I20 area on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings as well as weekends when the school is not using the premises.

Something that the Ballet Academy was hesitant about at first, because they didn't know what it would cost and it was difficult to get the schedule together.

No changing rooms

But now the Folkuniversitetet's foundation director, who sat in on negotiations with the municipality, announces that they have agreed to it.

- The price was okay, unfortunately we don't have changing rooms and the local traffic is not as good as to the Pink House, says Martin Höög at Folkuniversitetet.

According to him, the municipality's offer only applies during the spring and they are working intensively on the plans to rebuild their premises in the east of town to accommodate more dancers and gather all the dancing there permanently.
