The judicial noose is tightening on Cédric Cornet.

The mayor since 2020 of the Guadeloupe town of Gosier "has been indicted" for "embezzlement of public funds, favoritism, use of concealed work", we learned on Wednesday from the public prosecutor of Pointe-à-Pitre .

The elected official was "placed under judicial supervision" after a night spent in police custody and a referral to the investigating judge.

This measure provides for “the ban on leaving the department of Guadeloupe” and the “payment of 40,000 euros as a guarantee”, specified the prosecution.

According to local media, the mayor's lawyer intends to challenge the bail and the indictment.

A first audition in July

William Korutos, director general of the services of the Riviera du Levant urban community chaired by Cédric Cornet, was also indicted and placed under judicial control.

In July, a first hearing of Cédric Cornet took place in the premises of the financial brigade in Pointe-à-Pitre, after a search warrant had been issued against him, when he had not returned to his judicial summons, explained the prosecution, speaking of a "displayed desire not to honor" this summons.

The person concerned had denied wanting to evade justice and denounced a "relentlessness", while he had indicated that he was on a "honeymoon".

Above all, this is not his first run-in with the law.

Cédric Cornet has been registered in the sex offender file since his conviction on appeal in 2019 to two years in prison suspended, five years of socio-judicial follow-up and a fine of 16,000 euros for sexual assault on a minor under 15 years old.
