“The Suspect” by Dries Vos

This 8-episode British detective series takes us into the daily life of Captain Danny Frater: on his way to the morgue for a routine identity check, he finds himself face to face with the lifeless body of his daughter, Christina, whom he had lost sight of for several years.

Completely in shock, he learns that the autopsy concluded in a suicide.

Refusing to believe such an explanation and convinced that his daughter was murdered, Danny decides to go in search of answers to find out what really happened to Christina.

He begins by subjecting Jackie, the medical examiner who performed the autopsy, to a rather tough interrogation...

This is not the Belgian director's first attempt at crime fiction, and once again the result is up to par.

The adventures of Commissioner Frater have been broadcast since January 9 on Canal +.

"The Disappearance of John Darwin" by Chris Lang

This series, based on a true story, chronicles the memoirs of John Darwin and his now famous insurance scam.

In March 2002, this 57-year-old man disappeared in the North Sea during a canoe trip.

Declared dead, he returned to report to the police more than five years later.

His wife and accomplice had, in fact, on the evening of his "death", hidden her husband for years.

The investigation showed that the couple, crumbling under the debts, had found no other solution than to stage the own death of John Darwin to allow the rest of the family to touch his life insurance.

Chris Lang, screenwriter of "Unforgotten", fell in love with this absurd story and decided to make a miniseries in 4 episodes.

Double rewarded at the Marseille Series Stories festival (prize for best adaptation and prize for interpretation for Monica Dolan, who plays Darwin's wife), don't miss the surprising story of this canoeist who has returned from the dead, broadcast from January 23 on Canal +.

“The Night Laurier Gaudreault Woke Up” by Xavier Dolan

This is one of the most anticipated programs of the season: the most famous Quebec filmmaker returns to amaze us with a highly anticipated first series.

The director of "Mommy" and "Imaginary Loves" embarks on the adaptation of the eponymous play by Michel Marc Bouchard: in the 90s, Mireille, her brother Julien and their best friend Laurier form an inseparable trio.

All three have a future ahead of them: the two boys have just won the local sports championship while the young girl aspires to a career as an actress.

However, one night in October 1991, a terrible accident turns their destiny and that of their family upside down forever.

Years later, everyone finds themselves at the time of the death of Mireille and Julien's mother, a family reunion that will bring to light a secret buried for more than 30 years...

This series features the actors of the original play, including Julie Le Breton, Magalie Lépine-Blondeau, Éric Bruneau, Patrick Hivon.

The little film prodigy, Xavier Dolan, will be both behind and in front of the camera since in addition to directing, he also embodies Eliott, one of the main roles.

Between drama, suspense and humor, this program in 5 episodes is already one of the darlings of the year 2023. Canal + subscribers will be able to discover its first 2 episodes from January 23.
