• From Monday January 16, the town of Blagnac, northwest of Toulouse, extends the speed limit to 30 km / h throughout its territory.

  • A way to limit speeding in this town, which has many aeronautical companies in its economic zone, as well as the airport.

From next Monday, motorists will have to seriously slow down in Blagnac.

After Grenoble, Nantes, Lille, Lyon or Paris, the city in northwestern Toulouse has decided to extend its 30 km/h traffic zone to its entire territory.

This is far from trivial for this town which hosts the Airbus factories, the airport and many other companies.

Nearly 42,000 employees travel there every day.

A measure which aims to reduce the number of accidents, and to limit their consequences because at this speed, "in the event of an impact between a car and a pedestrian or cyclist, the risk of mortality is divided by six", insists the municipality .

It also aims to improve air quality and reduce visual pollution since 450 traffic signs will disappear from the roads.

But also to dissuade the followers of transit traffic who, thanks to their GPS application, used the roads of the city to get to work faster.

"This decision is intended to secure the cohabitation between street users, pedestrians and more and more bicycles and in order to curb the excessive speed of too many vehicles circulating in Blagnac", indicates the town hall in a press release.

In the neighboring town of Toulouse, a year and a half ago, 50% of the streets were at 30 km/h.

And the mayor of the fourth largest city in France, Jean-Luc Moudenc, had indicated that he aimed to gradually increase this rate to reach 80%, “gradually, without dogmatism”.
