China News Agency, Toronto, January 10 (Reporter Yu Ruidong) Canada is purchasing a set of "National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System" (NASAMS) and supporting ammunition from the United States, and will donate it to Ukraine.

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, who was in Mexico to attend the North American Leaders Summit, confirmed this when he met with US President Joe Biden on January 10.

Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand announced the details to the media in Ottawa on the same day, and said that this will be Canada's first air defense system provided to Ukraine.

The Canadian side will spend about 406 million Canadian dollars (about more than 302 million U.S. dollars) for this.

NASAMS is a short-to-medium-range ground-based air defense system that can be used to defend against attacks from drones, missiles, and aircraft, among others.

The system was jointly designed and manufactured by the Norwegian Kongsberg Air Defense Company and the American Raytheon Company.

Canadian officials stated that since February 2022, Canada has promised to provide Ukraine with military assistance worth more than 1 billion Canadian dollars.

The Canadian side will continue to provide necessary military support to Ukraine.

Since the Ukrainian crisis broke out, Canada has provided Ukraine with material support such as M777 howitzers and related ammunition, military drone cameras, armored combat support vehicles and winter clothes, as well as related military training.

In addition, since September 2015, Canada launched the "Unified Action" and sent military personnel to provide training to the Uzbekistan side.

The Canadian side stated that it has trained more than 34,000 Ukrainian military and security personnel on battlefield tactics and advanced military skills.
