In the past 4-M, the southern zone of the Community of Madrid, usual stronghold of the left in the region, was completely dyed in the blue of the Popular Party, leaving only four deputies of the absolute majority to Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

And it is in this field where a good part of the political aspirations for the autonomous elections of the month of May will be played, with the

popular

ones seeking to maintain their results and the left trying to recover.

A recovery that, above all, they expect in the PSOE and in Juan Lobato's team, where

they cling to their mayors in this area of the community to refloat a ship

that in the last elections did not even manage to be the main force of the opposition when suffering the

sorpasso

of Más Madrid.

Now the situation is different because the coincidence of the regional and municipal ones, point out among the Madrid socialists, will allow the general secretary to take advantage of the vote drag of the councilors.

Or, at least, that is how it is raised in the PSOE-M, based on the internal surveys with which they work and which

support them in municipalities such as Fuenlabrada, Getafe or Alcorcón

.

"People are happy with the management of their mayors and that is a boost for the party because the vote returns to us," say sources from the Madrid executive, who see there the option of expanding and even competing with Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

"He is not invincible", points out a socialist position in conversation with EL MUNDO.

Party sources indicate that the lowest point for the Socialists was not on May 4, 2021, the day of the electoral debacle, but a few months later, at the end of the year, when Juan Lobato took over as general secretary of the PSOE-M. .

But the internal polls of the formation indicate that now, at least in the municipal field, the Socialists are approaching the Popular Party and have options to revalidate some of the municipalities in left-wing coalitions and always with them ahead of Más Madrid.

In these southern municipalities,

the increases range between 8 and 19 percentage points, depending on the location,

with Fuenlabrada being one of the main pushes with Mayor Javier Ayala, precisely Juan Lobato's rival in the party's primaries in Madrid.

Yesterday, the general secretary of the PSOE-M chose El Atazar, one of the only two municipalities where it was the most voted force in the 4-M, as the place to start the political course that in just five months will lead to new elections.

There, Lobato placed 2023 as

the year of the "change in the political cycle" and "regeneration" in the Community of Madrid thanks to the "serious and solvent alternative"

of his project, focused especially on "things to eat" .

"What corresponds to us is to make life easier for families, the self-employed and those who are going to need Public Health at some point, which is almost all of us," he said, accompanied by the bulk of his parliamentary group in the Assembly;

for its new number 2, Llanos Castellanos, and for the national deputies Carmen Calvo and Zaida Cantera.

An act that served almost as the launch of an electoral campaign, still distant, but already present, where

the Socialists intend to focus on "the lack of management capacity" that they attribute to the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso in matters such as Health or Transport

to recover ground in Madrid, where they have not governed for 28 years, with Joaquín Leguina at the helm, but where they were the most voted force in 2019.

And, they understand within the Madrid executive, that the polls are favorable to them in that aspect.

Especially those of the Center for Sociological Research (CIS), which gave the option of a left-wing government in the Community, unlike most of the private polls that bring the PP closer to an absolute majority in the region.

"It did not give me a depression a year ago nor has it given me the euphoria with the last three that we know in Madrid," concluded Lobato.

Llanos Castellanos, number 2 for the autonomous regions

The general secretary of the PSOE-M, Juan Lobato, yesterday also took advantage of the act of starting the political year in El Atazar to present who will be his

number 2

in the regional lists in the next elections and one of the pillars of his action program politics.

The former president of National Heritage and former deputy director of the Presidency Cabinet of Pedro Sánchez, Llanos Castellanos

, will be the one who will occupy the position and who will therefore direct the campaign of the socialists.

Member of the Federal Executive of the PSOE as Secretary of Justice, Institutional Relations and Public Function, Castellanos was already counselor of Public Administrations of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha between 2003 and 2007 with José María Barreda as president and regional deputy in the Madrid Assembly for a brief period of a few months between 2019 and 2020 when it was claimed by Moncloa to lead Heritage.

Now, the socialist leader, as indicated yesterday, has returned to regional politics due to the "firm commitment" to the land in which she was welcomed and to combat "the laboratory of neoliberal ideology" in which the PP, she stated, wants to convert Madrid.

«

When project, leadership and team are combined, there is no stopping us

», Castellanos had an impact, adding that he is going to «leave his skin» to «tell all the good things» that Juan Lobato raises.
