Jenny Herbert managed to live for five weeks at the closed youth home in Falköping before she took her own life.

She is not the only one who tried to take her own life in a Sis home, but the only one who did not make it until December 2022.

The number of suicide attempts among young girls at Sis has increased from 32 in 2019 to 52 in the first 11 months of 2022.

- It is a dramatic increase and these girls should really be in psychiatry and not in Sis.

Therefore, Sis and psychiatry need to work together to provide adequate care, says Margareta Jonsson, acting head of department at Sis Margretelund where Jenny lived.

In the clip above, SVT's reporter explains what Sis is and how much suicide attempts have increased.

Increased state subsidy

Sis has been the subject of political discussion in recent years.

Several politicians have promised that the requirements will be raised.

At the same time, the grants have also been increased.

For the year 2023, Sis will receive 1.9 billion kroner in grants from the state, which is almost a doubling since 2018. Among other things, Sis will receive an increased grant to lower the fees for the municipalities that have to place young people.

The government already demanded in 2021 that Sis should work actively to prevent inmates from getting hold of drugs from the outside.
