A deteriorating global situation has also affected Swedish security, not least as a result of the war in Ukraine.

And threats from Russian intelligence are on the rise.

This is the opinion of the head of the Security Police, Charlotte von Essen, who will speak at the People and Defense National Conference in Sälen on Tuesday.

- We see intelligence activities, where you want to obtain sensitive information.

But also other types of attacks such as influence operations and extremely different forms of sabotage.

Infrastructure particularly vulnerable

Von Essen calls for "special attention" in three different sectors:

- It is about telecommunications, electricity supply and transport of critical material.

According to her, Säpo has intensified its work to meet the deteriorating situation in the world, both to make it more difficult for Russia to conduct intelligence activities in Sweden and to increase society's resilience.

No guarantees

After the high-profile cases where people were arrested for espionage in Sweden, von Essen says that Säpo is working to prevent more such cases from occurring.

A work that is carried out together with the Military Intelligence and Security Service (MUST).

- We work intensively together with MUST to prevent.

But in the end, you can never completely guarantee that this won't happen again.
