BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of South Korea's largest opposition party, the Democratic Party, will be investigated by the prosecution on the "Seongnam Football Club (FC) sponsorship" case on the 10th.

According to reports, Lee Jae-myung will go to the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Prosecutor's Office as a suspect at 10:30 a.m. local time on the same day. It is expected that most members of the Democratic Party leadership will accompany him.

The "Seongnam Football Club Sponsorship Case" refers to the fact that Lee Jae-myung was accused of accepting more than 17 billion won in sponsorship funds from Doosan Construction, Naver, and CHA Hospital from 2016 to 2018 when he was the mayor of Seongnam and the owner of Seongnam Football Club. Benefits such as building permits or land use change permits are offered to these businesses.

Korean media pointed out that in 2018, the then Zheng Future Party and others accused Li Zaiming of suspected third-party bribery.

South Korean prosecutors have investigated Doosan E&C, Naver, and CHA Hospital.

It is predicted that the prosecution will focus on asking whether there are improper requests behind the corporate sponsorship and whether Lee Jae-myung directly issued instructions on that day.

Prior to this, Li Zaiming had always denied the relevant suspicions.
