Local time Yesterday (8th), more than 3,000 polar supporters of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro stormed major state institutions in Brasilia, the capital.

Supporters broke into the Congress, the Supreme Court, the Administration Building and the Presidential Palace, throwing furniture and destroying facilities.

Local police tried to subdue the supporters by spraying tear gas, but it was not enough.

The Brazilian government said it deployed military forces and secured control of key institutional buildings three hours after supporters stormed in.

Brazilian President Lula Dasiouba called the rioters "fanatics" and said they would be severely punished.

Earlier, in the Brazilian presidential election held last October, President Lula won by a narrow margin, but supporters of former President Bolsonaro, who are far-right, have protested against the election results.

This Brazilian riot is being evaluated as very similar to the incident in which supporters of former US President Trump stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
