The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued 3 statements to follow up on the incident of the Egyptian police intervention to break up a quarrel between Kuwaiti students in the city of Alexandria (northern Egypt), after a video of the incident spread through social media yesterday, Saturday (January 7, 2023), showing the Egyptian security personnel dealing with the students. .

In a first statement issued by the Kuwaiti embassy in Cairo, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said that what appeared in the video was a security intervention to break up a quarrel between Kuwaiti students studying there in a commercial complex, which resulted in some minor injuries.

She added that the embassy is following up the course of the investigation with the competent authorities, expressing its regret at what happened and its dissatisfaction with "such behaviors that occurred on the part of some of its students," and called on them to abide by the laws in force in Egypt.

While no statement was issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry published a second statement in which it said that the Egyptian authorities had released yesterday evening, Saturday, all the Kuwaiti students involved in the quarrel.

In a third statement carried by the official Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, the ministry expressed Kuwait's deep dissatisfaction and rejection of what some Egyptian security men had done by beating some Kuwaiti students studying in the city of Alexandria.

The statement said that the Kuwaiti deputy foreign minister contacted the Egyptian ambassador to Kuwait "to find out about the measures taken by the Egyptian authorities regarding the attack."

According to the statement, the Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister called on the Egyptian authorities to quickly investigate the incident "in a manner that guarantees the rights of the students" and "hold the perpetrators of this attack accountable" and "take the necessary and deterrent measures for these unacceptable behaviors."

The statement said that what happened "does not reflect the symbolism of the brotherly relations between the State of Kuwait and the sister Republic of Egypt."
