After the Lightyear 0, here is the Lightyear 2, an electric car whose solar panels integrated into the roof and the hood make it possible to extend the autonomy by recharging the batteries.

Designed by a Dutch company, this car capable of carrying five people and their luggage will be offered for less than €40,000.

If the commercialization is not planned until 2025, it is already possible to register on a waiting list.

800 km range

According to Lex Hoefsloot, CEO and founder of the brand, the Lightyear 2 has already registered 21,000 pre-orders from rental and carpooling companies such as LeasePlan, MyWheels, Arval and Athlon.

The real autonomy of the model is announced at 800 km thanks to reduced weight (less batteries) and careful aerodynamics.

A major downside: the amount of solar energy used depends of course on the climatic conditions.
