• Two fires had struck the Poêle et Compagnie brand, installed in the west of France, in December.

  • A couple who had a dispute with the sign is suspected of having sponsored the facts.

  • Three people suspected of having participated in the fires have been remanded in custody.

Two fires and two attempted fires in nine days.

Too many to be a coincidence.

In December, the Poêle et Compagnie brand was indeed the target of malicious people.

On December 19, his Bain-de-Bretagne store was ravaged by flames, like other businesses in the commercial area.

Two days later, it was the La Mézière store that was affected by a new fire.

Already, the gendarmes suspected voluntary acts.

The investigations carried out by the investigators only confirmed their suspicions.

Especially since a few days later, two fire attempts were noted on the premises of Poêle et Compagnie in Châteaubriant (Loire-Atlantique).

Several people were arrested, in particular thanks to telephone records and identified a couple from Trélazé (Maine-et-Loire) as the main suspect, learned 20 Minutes, confirming information from Ouest-France.

The third individual implicated would have acted on the orders of a sponsor.

According to the public prosecutor, “a commercial dispute between the Poêle et compagnie company and a couple” was detected.

“Veiled threats” were then made.

A bakery in Retiers, victim of damage during the same period, had also had a dispute with the couple.

The woman keeps silent

While in police custody, an 18-year-old man already known to the courts admitted his involvement.

He says "to have been paid by a sponsor to commit the said acts with a sidekick" without giving more details.

The person who rented the vehicle, born in 1996, with no criminal record, denied any form of involvement.

The couple's wife, born in 1989, known to the judiciary, asserted her right to silence.

Following the police custody, the three accused were referred to the Rennes prosecutor's office and an investigation was opened on the counts of "destruction by fire and attempted destruction by fire" and complicity.

The three suspects have been placed.

Two other people remain to be heard in this procedure, warns prosecutor Philippe Astruc.
