  • Greece Constantine of Greece: three countries, confiscated their assets, poor health... This was the 46-year exile of the Queen's brother

The former King of Greece Constantine II, 83, remains hospitalized in the private hospital 'Ygeia' in Athens and, as reported by private television SKAI, would be in a critical but stable condition.

The former monarch is in the

hospital's

Intensive Care Unit , although he is not intubated.

According to SKAI, he is hospitalized for respiratory failure.

When the news broke this Friday that the former king had been admitted, some local media indicated that he had suffered a stroke, while others reported that he was hospitalized due to complications caused by coronavirus.

These extremes about his health were not confirmed to EFE by the former monarch's office, noting that

this

hospitalization "is one like all the others in recent years."

His entire

family is at his side

, including Queen Sofía and his other sister, Irene of Greece, as well as his wife, Ana María, younger sister of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and their five children.

According to local media, Constantine II was first admitted to the 'Attikon' university hospital and then transferred to 'Ygeia'.

The former Greek king has

been in fragile health for years

.

In December 2021 he was hospitalized after suffering an ischemic crisis and a month later he was admitted again after contracting the coronavirus.

He suffers from respiratory and cardiac problems and in recent years his mobility has also been reduced.

The former monarch had moved with his wife from the town of Porto Jeli in the Peloponnese to Athens in the spring of last year in order to be close to the hospital and the doctors who monitor his health.

Constantine II was crowned King of Greece in 1964 at the age of 24, although

shortly after the establishment of the dictatorship of the Colonels in the country, in 1967, he was forced to go into exile

with his entire family in Rome.

In 1974, after the fall of the military junta, a referendum was held in the country, in which 69.2% of the population opted for the republic, making Constantine the last king Greece has had.
