China News Agency, Washington, January 7 (Reporter Chen Mengtong) The US government announced on the 6th that it will provide a new round of military aid worth up to 2.85 billion US dollars to Ukraine.

The Pentagon said it was the largest round of U.S. military aid to Ukraine so far.

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia Laura Cooper said at a press conference on the 6th that this batch of equipment will be combined with U.S.-led military training to enhance the joint mobility of the Ukrainian army.

"Now is the right time for Ukraine to use its capabilities to change the situation."

This batch of military assistance includes: 50 M2-A2 "Bradley" infantry fighting vehicles, 100 M-113 armored personnel carriers, 50 anti-mine and ambush vehicles and artillery systems, surface-to-air missiles and ammunition.

In addition to the above-mentioned direct military aid, the United States also announced on the same day a total of 905 million US dollars in foreign military financing, which will be used to support the long-term capacity building of the Ukrainian military and other European countries affected by the situation in Russia and Ukraine.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Austin spoke with Ukrainian Defense Minister Reznikov on the same day to discuss the batch of military aid.

Austin reiterated that the United States is calling on allies and partners to provide more air defense systems, combat vehicles and other critical capabilities to support Ukraine.

This is the 29th time since August 2021 that U.S. President Biden has used the executive power of the president to directly transfer weapons to Ukraine from the Department of Defense inventory.

U.S. military aid pledges to Ukraine have totaled about $24.9 billion since the Biden administration took office.
