• Politics The Government rules out supporting the PP proposal for judges to choose judges: "In no way"

  • Justice Division between judicial associations before the reform of the PP: "Why are we limited to electing only six members?"

The spokesman for

the Socialist Group

in the Congress of Deputies, Patxi López, has described the latest PP proposal to renew the General Council of the Judiciary (

CGPJ

) as "constitutional blackmail" and "democratic barbarity".

In addition, he has defended that the Spanish Courts have the capacity to decide on the governing bodies of the judiciary and "the rest are traps."

In an appearance in Bilbao, the socialist spokesman in the Lower House has reviewed the policies and measures of the Government of Pedro Sánchez, which "are working well" and has assured that this year "it will continue in the same direction, helping people for Spain to continue advancing".

Meanwhile, as he has predicted, the PP "will continue to do its thing" because "the only thing it has done so far has been to hinder", since "it has voted and they have opposed everything that has allowed it to face the crisis".

"They have even wanted to prevent Congress and the Senate from fulfilling our role of debating and legislating to fix the problems, taking to court everything they do not like to achieve, based on sentences, what they did not achieve. through the ballot box", he censured.

Patxi López has insisted that the PP "has played to hinder, prevent and block, nothing more" and "has gone to the extreme of putting a price on constitutional compliance."

In this sense, he has lamented that "they have not fulfilled the constitutional mandate of renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary for more than four years."

"And after all this time and over a thousand excuses, now they tell us that if we want them to comply with the

Constitution

, we have to give them what they want," he added.

The Socialist spokesman has warned that "this is called constitutional blackmail and it is a true democratic outrage."

"That they comply with the Constitution and that they then raise what they want," he pointed out.

In addition, he has wondered why judges should choose judges, when "the Constitution does not say so, which is perfectly clear", which establishes that national sovereignty "resides in the Spanish people, from whom the powers of the State emanate".

"The judiciary also, therefore," he added.

The Magna Carta also states that Congress and the Senate "represent the Spanish people," added López.

"Therefore, the Cortes Generales must have the capacity to decide yes or yes on the organs of the Government of the Judiciary. The rest are traps and constitutional blackmail that are absolutely undemocratic and unacceptable," he reiterated.

"No Apocalypse"

On the other hand, it has called attention to the fact that the

popular

and its president, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, "who spent all of

2022

predicting catastrophe, collapse and ruin for the Spanish economy", have remained silent in the face of non-compliance with that "apocalypse".

"Now they don't talk anymore, they don't talk about the economy, they don't talk about inflation, they don't talk about employment, because to talk about these things would be to agree with the government and the measures it has been adopting so that this country can grow and create jobs," he said. pointed.

In conclusion, Patxi López has insisted that "the progressive government works and is going to continue betting on helping the country's economy and protecting citizens", while the PP "we still do not know what it is for".
