Palestinian warnings of "mass displacement" in the West Bank

Yesterday, the Palestine Liberation Organization warned of the Israeli government's intention to carry out "the largest mass displacement operation in the West Bank."

The National Office for Defending Land and Resisting Settlements, affiliated with the organization, said in a statement that the new Israeli government is preparing to evict and displace the residents of eight villages in the Masafer Yatta area in Hebron, out of 28 residential communities in Al Musafer.

The statement stated that the Israeli authorities justified the displacement process by saying that it comes in implementation of an Israeli court decision issued last May, under the pretext that the targeted villages are located in a military training area.

According to the statement, 1,800 Palestinians live in 28 residential communities in Masafer Yatta, on an area of more than 30,000 dunums. The statement confirmed that the Israeli government has initiated procedures on the ground to perpetuate settlement, including settlers starting to fence off lands owned by Palestinians in separate areas of the West Bank, signaling their confiscation.
