Íñigo de la Serna's last tweet is from July 28, 2018. Four and a half years ago, the former Minister of Public Works announced his goodbye: "Full point to almost two decades of public service. Today is a day to thank to all of you who have been there. It has been a great honor. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Her previous publication on that same network was the famous photo of Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría reunited with her primary team eating pizza.

After the defeat of his candidate in the PP battle for power, the former minister stepped aside and returned to the private sector, but Alberto Núñez Feijóo has convinced him to return to the forefront of politics.

The former mayor of Santander will also be the coordinator of the electoral program of the PP for the local and municipal elections on May 28.

This was announced by the main opposition party in a statement: "De la Serna is commissioned to draw up a framework program that serves as a basis and reference for the candidates from all over Spain, regardless of the specific programs with which each one of them will contest the next elections".

For the PP, "his marked municipalist profile due to his long career in local politics and his great sensitivity in regional affairs after passing through the Parliament of Cantabria make Íñigo de la Serna the ideal person to capture the PP's proposals as opposed to the failed socialist policies".

Feijóo had a telephone conversation with the former minister and he was "enthusiastic" with the idea, according to PP sources.

The signing of him is the first of those that Feijóo wants to undertake to expand the leadership of the PP with "external talent", and to broaden the electoral bases of the party.

"It is the visualization of the return home", they point to this newspaper in Genoa.

They will help De la Serna, in the campaign committee.

"veteran people and technical profile", as well as other signings "that he incorporates".

In fact, the electoral program of the PP "will collect contributions from people from civil society and outside the Popular Party."

In addition, Feijóo believes that the support of former ministers strongly opposes the trend in the PSOE, where several former PSOE ministers have publicly distanced themselves from the policies of Pedro Sánchez.

"While the ministers of Zapatero and Felipe González turn their backs on Sánchez, those of the PP are unified around Feijóo; if they saw him weak, they would not lend themselves," they explain in Genoa.

The elaboration of the program "takes on special importance in this electoral event after the path taken by Pedro Sánchez -backed by his barons and candidates- of transfers to his partners, contempt and invasion of the institutions, erroneous social reforms and a wrong economic policy", judge the PP.

And that, he believes, "leads a large number of families to a vulnerable situation."

A Civil Engineer from the University of Cantabria, Íñigo de la Serna was mayor of Santander, president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, and Minister of Public Works of the Government of Spain from 2016 to 2018. He is currently a director Independent of TYPSA and Banco de Caminos, general director of Madrid Green Urban Mobility Lab and professional consultant for companies and multilateral organizations in infrastructure, technology, sustainability and environment, mobility and urban management projects, among others.

In his statement, Feijóo thanks De la Serna "for his generosity in joining the project with his talent and prestige", and highlights "his enormous vocation for public service that has led him to commit himself to the party at a difficult time for our country both in the economic sphere as well as in the institutional and social one.

And he concludes: "The PP trusts in the capacity and experience of Íñigo de la Serna to prepare a document that demonstrates the alternative that the Popular Party represents to a Socialist Party incapable of solving the problems of the Spaniards and that weakens our institutional system."
