Children were forcibly cared for in a psychiatric ward for adults - later killed themselves

The reason was a lack of staff and that it was not possible to arrange care at another child psychiatric unit.

According to a Lex Maria report, which SVT learned about via the Siren news agency, the child was in constant need of care and had been cared for for a long time in child and youth psychiatry in Region Västmanland.

The intention was to place the child temporarily in a separate unit within adult psychiatry and that the child would be cared for with responsibility shared between adult and child psychiatry.

A few months after treatment at the adult clinic, the child took his own life.

The incident has now been reported to the Inspectorate for Care and Care, IVO, for having caused a serious health care injury.
