THE ESSENTIAL

  • A first since the beginning of the conflict.

On Thursday, Vladimir Putin ordered Russian troops to enforce a ceasefire on January 6-7 on the occasion of Orthodox Christmas.

He further called on the Ukrainian forces to respect this truce.

On the kyiv side, this ceasefire is considered "hypocritical" and Moscow is accused of wanting to "buy time".

  • The Russians are backing down and Vladimir Putin seems increasingly weakened.

The Russian president affirmed once again this Thursday that a dialogue with Ukraine can take place but on condition that the latter accepts the "new territorial realities" born of the offensive.

  • After France, the United States and Germany will supply the Ukrainian armed forces with armored infantry, of the Bradley type on the American side and of the Marder model on the German side.

“The war in Ukraine has reached a turning point,” Joe Biden said Thursday during a meeting at the White House.

Hello everyone.

Like every day, the editorial staff of 20 Minutes is mobilized to give you the latest information on the conflict.

On Thursday, President Vladimir Putin announced this ceasefire on January 6 and 7 on the occasion of Orthodox Christmas, after a request to this effect from Patriarch Kirill.

This ceasefire is the first general truce since the beginning of the war.

A Russian decision described as "hypocritical" by kyiv.

At the same time, the United States and Germany promised the Ukrainians a first delivery of armored infantry, of the Bradley type on the American side and of the Marder model on the German side.

Berlin has also pledged to provide a Patriot air defense battery, as Washington has already done.
