On December 14 last year, the 15-year-old was sentenced for attempted murder and aggravated rape of a child to forensic psychiatric care with a special discharge examination.

The boy had confessed to aggravated rape of a child, but denied attempted murder - the defense argued instead that he was guilty of extremely serious assault.

Now, however, the boy and his defense lawyer Jens Nyström have decided not to appeal the verdict.

- Basically, the categorization may not have such a great significance in the form of a penalty.

Perhaps it would be important in the matter of damages, but we chose not to proceed in that part, says Jens Nyström.

Over 800,000 in damages

The verdict includes that the boy must pay SEK 730,000 in damages to the girl and SEK 111,000 to the girl's parents.

The lawyer Urban Rönnblom, who represents the girl and her family, will not appeal the verdict either.

- We got our claims heard in the district court, for that reason there is no reason to appeal, says Urban Rönnblom.

Satisfied with the verdict

Prosecutor Andreas Nyberg already announced after the verdict that he will not appeal.

- I am satisfied with the district court's verdict.

A real conclusion has been reached in terms of both responsibility and penalty, Andreas Nyberg told SVT on December 14.
