The dam broke.

On the 4th day and 12th ballot to elect the Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy finished very close to the goal on Friday, after convincing 14 slingers to vote for him.

He is still missing three votes, which he could get in the 13th round which is currently taking place.

After an evening of negotiations, optimism was back in the Republican ranks.

McCarthy agreed to reinstate the rule allowing a single elected member to table a motion of no confidence, and to give more power in the committees to the Freedom Caucus, the parliamentary group to which almost all the rebels belong.

One by one, the objectors shouted McCarthy's name, to applause.

The “Never Kevin” group, led by Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert, has shrunk to just seven representatives.
